Dear friends,
The Sathyan Memorial Sports and Arts Club, Mamood, Kollam founded in 1971, in the beloved memory of the great Epic Malayalam actor Sathyan who won iconic placement in the hearts of all cinema lovers with his eternal acting wisdom, has attained proud distinction in the arena of arts-sports-social and cultural activities in Kerala. Also the library started in the name of Sri.T.K.Sankara pillai, a selfless activist of this establishment, has reached the summit of fame in a very short span of time. The organisation, which started its journey from a small underfurnished hut, has now grown into a three-storied sophisicated building, won the best organisation award in State-National level in Kollam District. We are indeed, blissful and proud of its activities and achievments.
The date 26th January 2005 was a remarkable twist in the history of this organisation. It was on this date that an Award was initiated for the first time in memory of the acting Maestro Sri. sathyan. Since then the Award was given to 27 film artists and 4 mini screen artists till 2007
From 2008 it was decided to upgrade the status of the award into the National level so that it could win perfection and National recognition. Within this aim, 25 artists from Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telgu and Hindi films are selected. Besides, National Bussiness Excellence Award(one), National Excellence award for social Service (one) and Awards for 4 artists from Mini Screen have also given, A cash prize worth Rs 10001 each given to Lifetime Achievement, Meritorious Contribution for music and Television, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress and Rs 5001 each for other categories. Five feet long 'Nilavilakku' (TraditioalLamp) made of Rose wood worth Rs.75000 and Special Memento are also given to all award recipients.
Although there are many fans Club and associations mushroomed in various parts of Kerala, nothing could capture the hearts of people. Normally award-giving functions are opened only to upper sections of the society. The laymen can't even dream of being part of such a function. Since this function is conducted in an open stage where the entry is absolutely free for all, it is quite generous in nature. No other institution of this kind can claim such a feat. Sri. Jayaram, Sri.Rajasenan, Sri.Siddiq and Smt.Kalpana have contributed their sublime service for the dazzling success of the ceremony. Mere awards won't be sufficient enough to convey our heartful gratituted to them.
We fondly remember those who helped us to enhance a sense of moral-intellectual-social and cultural aspects among the public. We extend our sincere thanks to all well-wishers who help us for the constant development in all dimensions. We mention our special thanks to the veterans in their respective sheres. Above all,you are requested to give full-fledged support in the forthcoming eventful days and make it a flamboyant moment.

LOCATION

The location of the existing Sathyan memorial Spors and Arts Club Building is at 8' 38' North latitude and 76' 38' East longitude which is almost same as that of Kollam town. Kollam is the most important industrial and commercial centre and the club is at the suburbs of the Kollam Corporation area. The nearest Broad guage (Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram) railway station is at Kollam, 10 Kms west and the nearest Metre guage (Now under upgradation to Broad guage) railway station is at Chandanathope just 500 meters west (Kollam-Schencottah).The existing club building is adjucent to Kollam-Kottavasal National Highway-NH208 at 10Kms east of Kollam town.

HISTORY

Sathyan Memorial Sports and Arts Club was founded commemorate the memory of Sri.Sathyan noted thespian and an actor of par excellence. It became a registered sports, arts, ciltural and social organisation under Chartitable Socities Registration Act of 1955 in 1971 (Register No.Q59/1971). The beginning was modest but scaled the steps of growth by the passage of years, It achieved excellence in the field of sports,arts and games and exerted considerable influence in social and cultural fields.At first the club was housed in a thatched building the land earmarked forthe purpose. Subsequently a three stored building was constructed there. The club has made giant strides in its development and contributed a great deal in the growth of arts and sports and produced athlets and artist of repute and calibre.

T.K.Sankarapillai Memorial Library was registered under Kerala Grandasala Sangham in 1966 and commenced its function. Library was named to commemorate the memory of Sri.T.K.Sankara Pillai one of the founder member of the club. Now the Library has a collection of more than 12500 books and it is a major 'A' grade library under Kerala State Library Council. The noted asset of the Library is its references section which containa valuable reference books.. The reference section is used by graduate sudents in their studies.
